5 Plumbing Disasters to Avoid

Plumbing is one of the hardest home improvement activities to take on, if you do decide to go down this path, be sure you’re aware of some of the potential disasters. Here at Michael Runk, we’ve seen plenty of plumbing disasters and we want to help you avoid these issues yourself. That’s why we’ve put together this list of 5 plumbing disasters to avoid.

Using the Wrong Pipe

if you’re interested in DIY plumbing, be sure to use the correct materials. If you accidentally use the wrong size or type of pipe, it can cause corrosion or other issues down the line. Double check that you have the correct pipes, connectors, etc. for the job at hand. If you’re not really sure how to refit pipes or which pipe is best for the situation, it may be time to call your local Maryland plumbing service.

Not Turning off the Water

Always, always, always turn off the water to the area of your home you’re working on. It will help prevent water damage where you’re working and it will keep you dry as well. Not to mention, once you’ve turned the water off be aware that there is still water in the pipes, so be sure to properly drain the water from what you are working on. Then, have some towels ready just in case.

5 Plumbing Disasters to Avoid

Leaving Outside Faucets on Over Winter

Any faucets which lead outside should be shut off and flushed before winter comes. This will prevent these pipes from freezing and bursting over the winter; and prevent you from an expensive repair.

Improperly Using Drain Cleaner

Drain cleaner is an effective way to clear out clogs in your drains. Using too much of it or using it in the wrong spot can be a plumbing disaster which you need to avoid. Always read the package label for any chemical you are using inside or outside your home to keep yourself safe and avoid a plumbing disaster.

Not Hiring a Professional

When all is said and done, plumbing is one repair where you should probably call in a Maryland plumbing service. While replacing a bathroom faucet is certainly do-able for the average DIY-er, a lot of the plumbing work done in your home requires years of training to perform correctly. This will ensure your home’s plumbing works effectively and you can avoid any of the major plumbing disasters.
