Signs You Should Update Your Water Treatment System

More than four out of ten American homes use water treatment units. These units can last for years, and technology advancements allow these systems to best address changes in water quality, provide more efficiency, and are cost-effective. Although these high-tech water treatment units can last for years, eventually, they will need to be replaced. Here are some signs that let you know it’s time to upgrade your water treatment system.

Changes in Taste and Smell

Water filtration systems are designed to remove contaminants and foul odors in your drinking water. If suddenly you are noticing a strange taste, look, or smell from your drinking water, it can be an indication that it’s time to upgrade your water filtration system. These signs usually mean that the contaminants that your water treatment system is supposed to have filtered out are present in your drinking water. Sometimes all you need to do is replace the filter, but other times you may need to fully upgrade your system.

Mineral Build-up

Your water treatment system, when working properly, also filters out minerals. Minerals such as calcium and magnesium can leave deposits on dishes and plumbing fixtures. If your water treatment system isn’t working properly, you can begin to see mineral deposits, stains, or white film on bathroom fixtures, dishes, and sinks. Mineral deposits can also clog your showerheads and appliances.

Noise

Once it’s time to upgrade your water treatment system, your unit can start making strange noises. If your water treatment unit starts making laboring sounds, it’s usually an indication that it needs to be repaired or upgraded. An experienced MD plumber will be able to identify the problem and tell you if you should repair your current water treatment system or upgrade it completely.

Dry Hair and Skin

Have you noticed changes in your hair or skin? Showering or bathing in hard water can leave a film of soap on your skin and hair. This film can prevent the removal of dirt and bacteria as well as irritate your skin. For your hair, this film can cause build-up and make your hair tangle easily, make it look dull, and leave it feeling rough. Changes to your skin or hair after a shower or bath can be a good indication that your water treatment system should be upgraded.
