Common Issues with Your Bathroom’s Plumbing

Considering all that goes on in a bathroom, for many homeowners, plumbing is a common problem. Sometimes homeowners can fix the situation on their own and other times they may need to call an expert. Take a look at some of these common issues with bathroom plumbing:

bathroom plumbing issues

Clogged Toilet

This is an extremely common plumbing problem. As long as the toilet is clogged, it cannot be used, and it is at risk for overflowing. A clogged toilet can usually be fixed by the average person with a plunger. If a plunger doesn’t work, you can try using a closet auger. If none of those two things resolve the issue, it’s time to contact a reputable plumber.

Dripping Faucets

Dripping faucets can be annoying, but they can also hurt your pockets. Dripping faucets can result in an increased water bill. The cause of a dripping faucet is usually a defective washer. Over time, the washer inside the faucet may get worn out, torn, stiffen up, or get dislodged. Fixing a dripping faucet requires specific tools, so it’s best to call a professional plumber to resolve the issue.

Low Water Pressure

If your faucet that usually sprouts out water is now only trickling water, your water pressure has decreased. The cause of this is usually a buildup of sediment and mineral deposits on the aerators (the small tip at the very end of your faucet where water comes out of). Usually, you can solve this problem by removing it and placing it in vinegar overnight. If this doesn’t work, or you cannot remove your aerator, you should contact a professional plumber to resolve the issue.

Running Toilet

Over time, running toilets can become expensive for homeowners. Up to 200 gallons of water may be lost each day as a result of a running toilet. The bad news is that discovering the cause for a running toilet can be tricky. There are many possible reasons why your toilet is running, but a common problem is a faulty flapper valve. You can usually solve this problem with a toilet repair kit, but if you’re unsure of what you’re doing, it’s better to contact a plumber that can identify the cause, and fix the issue.

Slow Drainage

Finally, one of the most common bathroom problems is a drain that clears slowly. This can mean a clogged sink, a clogged shower, or a clogged tub. This can be a result of a buildup of hair, soap, or any other debris that sticks to the inside of pipes and causes a smaller opening. A smaller opening means that water cannot pass through as quickly and efficiently as it would if there was a bigger opening. Slow drainage can be solved using a plunger, a chemical drain cleaner, pliers, or a cable auger. If the problem persists, call a local plumber.
