5 Ways to Upgrade Your Home’s Plumbing

After the year we’ve just had, you deserve to upgrade your home. If you have more household members working and learning from home, your home’s plumbing is working harder than it usually does. There are many ways you can upgrade your home’s plumbing, save water, and save money. Here are five of those ways:

1. Buy a New Water Heater

Traditional water heaters are bulky, inefficient, and waste money. Hot water remains in the pipes until it cools. The best way to upgrade your water heater is by buying a new, tankless water heater. These water heaters will warm water on demand which means you no longer have to wait for hot water to reach your shower. Over time, it will save you money on your water bill.

2. Modernize Your Pipes

Many homes still contain galvanized, cast iron, clay, or lead pipes. These types of pipes can corrode and negatively affect your water and your plumbing system. Not only will water taste bad if your pipes corrode, but the water coming through those pipes can pose a health risk to those who drink it. So if you have old traditional pipes, upgrade them to a modern material such as copper, PVC, and PEX.

3. Switch to Low Flow

Unless you can’t live without a high-pressure shower, low-flow fixtures offer a wide range of benefits for homeowners. These fixtures save water and therefore save you money on your water bills. This eco-friendly option doesn’t require a large initial investment, and you can see the benefits in the long run.

4. Recycle Water

If you want to decrease your environmental impact, recycling your water is a good way to start. There are recycling systems on the market that will take used water from your showers and faucets and redirect it to your lawn, garden, or external reservoir. These systems never take water from your toilet, so you never have to worry about contamination.

5. High-Efficiency Faucets

Traditional faucets use up to 2.5 gallons of water per minute. Compare that to the amount of water high-efficiency faucets use, which is an average of 1.5 gallons per minute. Replacing your old faucets with a high-efficiency one is an inexpensive way to decrease your water consumption, reduce your water bill, and modernize your home.
