Why is My Shower Screaming?

Have you ever turned on your shower, only to hear your pipes squeal and clank? How can you take a relaxing shower when your ears are being polluted with a rattling pipe scream. You may be able to fix the sound yourself, or you may require the services of a emergency plumbing specialist in Maryland. There are many reasons why your pipes may be squealing, and we wanted to talk about some of the more common causes:

Clear Out Your Shower Head

Often times sediment can build up within your shower head and can block the water holes. This increases the pressure in the pipes and can cause a loud noise to emanate from the shower head. Luckily if this is the cause of your noise, then it’s an easy fix. All you will need to do is to remove the head and make sure all of the water holes are clear. Once they’re clear reattach the head and run water through it, checking to see if the sound has dissipated.

Replace Your Shower Head’s Washer

Within your shower head is a washer that can become corroded or damaged, and could be the cause of the noise. To check your washer, you need to first shut off the water supply to your shower. Then remove your shower head and locate the washer, which should be located underneath your faucet cartridge. If the washer seems dirty or damaged, try replacing it and seeing if the sound goes away.

Test Out Your Water Pressure

Many homeowners don’t know that they can adjust their home’s water pressure, and many have no need to. However, if your pressure is set too high it could be the cause of the sound. You’ll want to reduce your home’s water pressure and listen for the sound. Continue to adjust and listen with a bit of trial and error, until the sound goes away.

Still Having Troubles?

If you’ve tried all of these quick-fixes and are still being hounded by a screeching sound, then you may benefit from some Maryland emergency plumbing repair services. There could be something more seriously wrong with your plumbing system, and the only way to fix it is to get in there and look.
