Modern Plumbing Options

Most people are concerned about their home being eco-friendly. With apprehension about global warming, it’s important to take our carbon footprints into account. Not to mention, more modern options for outfitting your home will save you money in the long run!

While “going green” in the house has most thinking about energy-efficient appliances like dryers and washing machines, there are ways to go green with modern plumbing options as well. If you’re concerned about the environment and wouldn’t mind saving a little “green” on the side (nobody said being environmentally-conscious couldn’t have other benefits!) look into these modern plumbing options:

  • Tankless water heaters. This is a great way to be energy-efficient and save a lot on maintenance. Just as it says, a tankless water heater is missing its tank, so water is heated on an as-needed basis. Old-fashioned water heaters store up hot water in the boiler, which requires a lot of energy and takes up a lot of space. A tankless water heater is far smaller than a traditional one, and is much easier to fix if something goes wrong. You’ll also like that you don’t have to look at a giant tank in your basement!
  • High efficiency toilets. If your home is of modern make, it’s likely you already have a high-efficiency toilet installed. However, for those living in an older home, toilets can use up to 7 gallons of water per flush. Upgrading to newer toilets can help save the environment and money on the water bill. In the meantime, put a brick or sealed bottle full of water in the tank of the toilet to save on the water bill.
  • Efficient faucets. Just like efficient toilets, these use far less water than their older counterparts, and you won’t notice the difference in pressure. If you have an old, leaky faucet, replacing it with a new model is one of the easiest ways to go green with your plumbing (and it’s a simple weekend DIY). Replacing faucets also allows you to easily update the look of a kitchen or bath, which is an excellent side benefit!

Modern plumbing makes maintenance and use of water systems easier than ever. With a few simple upgrades to your kitchen, bath, or water heating system, you’ll be saving money and using fewer resources than ever before! Contact us at Michael Runk Plumbing & Heating Services to learn more.
